Hi guys, saw Deac and Akdavis' post here and I agree fully with Akdavis. Go and see http://www.skipintro.nu/raackcms/pages/ ... hp?lang=NL and check out these loss registers. Although its in Dutch it shows clearly which the terrible losses where suffered by both RAF and USAAF during the bombing campaign.
Only under cover of the P-38, P-47 and P-51 the US bombers could get trough. And even under the cover of darkness the RAF did lose a large number of bombers; in the night of 30 - 31 March 1944, by example the RAF lost 96 out of 779 bomber on a raid on Nuremberg.
