You can get smooth pans using track IR with the sensor mounted on a tripod or dolly while you re-record rushes from your .trk file on playback. Tracking friendly or enemy from your camera pov works well.
You can also pan and zoom in Sony Vegas or Final Cut. A hell of a lot easier than using the mouse, and totally smooth. Only drawback is a slight loss of resolution at high zoom.
Camera angles can be altered for "fly by view" in conf.ini. I have a range of values I can paste in.
