HSFX.....First Impressions
#1

I just installed HSFX (4.1) for the first time and it looks like the History Mod had edited some of the DEFAULT maps. For instance, some of the airfields have been drastically altered. Why did they do that? Why didn't they name them as new modded maps?

Now, any missions that were written for the DEFAULT map will not work. I'm not sure how many DEFAULT maps were modded, as I just started messing with HSFX. I tried a Quick mission with the Okinawa map and that's when I noticed the airfields had been changed. When I tried to load one of my Okinawa coop missions, I got some kind of 'string' error and it aborted.

UI never touched the DEFAULT maps. By HSFX editing the DEFAULT maps, any previous missions you have on those particular maps are probably no good now.

I see now why players using HSFX have been having problems joining some of my coop missions. It's map incompatibility....even though I was using 4.09m DEFAULT maps.

This problem never occured with UI. I could host an unmodded mission but players with a UI modded version could easily join my coop and enjoy their mods.

Well, I do understand that HSFX was made for SEOW online wars. However, it's obvious it actually adds to incompatibility issues in certain online applications.

For instance, for someone like me who hosts mostly 4.09m unmodded coop missions on HL, HSFX users will not be able to join, depending on which map the mission is using. Again, UI did not have this kind of incompatibility issue.

I assume this would also affect offline users. If you download an unmodded mission or campaign that used one of the DEFAULT maps that HSFX has altered, you wouldn't be able to load it in HSFX mode. With UI, this would have been no problem.

Does anyone know if UltraPack also edits the DEFAULT maps without renaming them?
