They are no longer needed, because the content is now all contained in Compiled SFS files.

You just let me be the judge of that... What if I don't care for some of the mods contained in the SFS files ? What if not everything is included in those SFS ? So everything worthy of being used is in the SFS and the rest just doesn't count ?

Before you try that mate I'd suggesta system restore. From using it a lot, I can say that it has restored everything back to normal
