I have recently rebuilt my home system to Windows7 Enterprise 64bit. As was stated earlier . . make a GAMES directory and put your "entertainment" programs there. One more thing you will need to do with 1946 after you have it installed (or at least I did). My TrackIR just would not run. Once I gave the main EXE ADMIN rights (click the "run as administrator" box from the preferences off the shortcut or the exe) my TrackIR finally worked.
Go figure!
I'm just a bit befuddled as to which version is going to become the favored ONLINE one (HSFX or SAS). Sheesh. It was easier when it was only AAA.
NOTE : my TrackIR also has the "Run as Admin" ticked.
NOTE1 : The Teamspeak Overlay (http://www.projecttint.com/teamspeakoverlay.php) works with Windows7 too! But to get it to install you have to trick it. When you install it . . be sure you are running as administrator (r-click and select "run as administrator" on the install exe). Otherwise it will fail and abort with a wrong OS error.
EDIT - BlackJack - I just re-read your error message closer. Did you install the latest DirectX and your correct video drivers? I recall getting something similar to that with my first game I tried . . . and it was the lack of all the DirectX drivers.
