The big difference is the straight deck versus the angled deck. During the Korean era, the Panthers, Banshees, Cougars and Skynights made their approach just like the props did. The LSO directed them into a fairly level approach after rolling out of their turn to final, and had them cut power for the trap provided they were at the right speed, altitude and attitude. The landing was just a transition from a level, power-on approach, to a stalled landing and, hopefully a hook engagement. The approach to the angled deck is more of a decent along a glide path predetermined by the mirror landing system, which takes into account the type a/c as well as it's landing weight. with no "cut" at all.
If someone could figure out how to do it for this game, it would probably work pretty well, but it would definitely be out of place for this time period.
