Here's an update, hope it will help others who have troubles.
Catalyst 10.2 was installed, but my problems with iL2 continued. Also had graphics tearing in Imperial Glory, and some (not as bad) in Praetorians, 2 games I bought last week for $10, that worked perfect with 9.6 Cat drivers.
Saw that a fix sometimes worked, that being to take a copy of the Catalyst 9.1 atioglxx.dl_ and put it in root of C:\ drive, then use CMD>enter, then type "expand C:\atioglxx.dl_ C:\atioglxx.dll This file is then copied into iL2's root directory, and voila, all is fixed.
I had tried something someone had posted, that was to just rename atioglxx.dl_ to atioglxx.dll and this always caused an error from Vista.
Also tried copying the atioglxx.dll file to Imperial Glory and Praetorians, and resulted in the graphics anomalies in those being fixed, so this method will most likely work on any other problem games.
One program that it didn't fix was Mafia, which has always refused to start on Vista, only getting to the part where you need to put the right cd in the drive, did that but it tries, but just see a black flash, then back to desktop. Have installed on XP pro from same disk set, runs perfectly.
Thanks for your help.
