I've tried Blender 2 years ago, i didn't find the interface very friendly, to 3d modeling i personally prefer or Gmax or Zbrush, depending of what i need to execute.
But still is worth a try, i don't really know the new versions of blender.
I'm on Blender 2.49, it was a bit of a hassle to install (I got the wrong Python version), and the learning curve is pretty steep.
But then again, that goes for the learning curve on alot of 3D programs.
Getting to learn 3DsMax was'nt really that easy aswell, but it's user interface is a little more friendly.
As said, Blender3D is a world of difference with commercially sold programs like Maya and 3DsMax, but if you take the time to learn, you will find the Blender3D interface quite intuitive.
I don't know what the latest Blender3D 2.5 Alpha version holds, but I feel really tempted to try it anytime soon. 8)
