GIMP all the way..
Its FREE user friendly and great results BUT whatever software you get
you will be a little overwhelmed at first by all the tools,applications and layers etc. hock:
But read the tutorials at simmerspaintshop http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/ and watch tutorials on YouTube
and will get the hang of it and to be honest you wont even scratch the surface when using tools
[well I dont anyway]
