I've been running Win 7 64 bit for quite some time now and I stopped, just about, all crashes after setting 'Disable Visual Themes' in the compatibility tab of the shortcuts properties.

Please note that I do not run in Compatibility Mode.
1) right click the game shortcut and select 'Properties'.
2) left click on the 'Compatibility' tab,
3) select (tick) 'Disable Visual Themes'
4) Click on 'Apply'

Yeah I've been doing that since Vista...

Upgrading the ATI 9.10 atigloxx.dll file in my IL2 root folder with the newer 10.5 atigloxx.dll seemed to fix it for me, ran for hours online the past few nights with no problems anymore.
