I had a very similar problem a while back.
Turned out to be a motherboard driver issue.
Make sure that you check to see if there is possible a new set of drivers for your motherboard on your laptop as well as a BIOS update.

The problem I had was with the Northbridge and the PCI Bus driver for the MB. After updating both and flashing the BIOS, everything was perfect.
