Looks really great Skunk! I think this is going to be a great favorite for all fans of the PTO.
IMHO the air battles over this area of the Pacific are the stuff of legend, and what most combat flight simulation junkies dream about.
The fact that PF failed to properly implement the "Slot" was one of its greatest shortfalls, with the lack of a comprehensive air and ship order of battle being a close second.
It's one of the reasons I enjoy the mods so much...well done! 8)
Please Skunk, dunno if i speak for everyone, but take your time. I would rather wait while you get everything perfect.
Anyone getting any missions/campaigns ready for this?

I'm not rushing anything mate.
Rest assured, this will be one of the first completely new mod maps, and so it will only be released as a beta for you all to try. Once I get feedback, I will correct anything that needs to be, and will then release a final version.

Count me in for a test run! =)
It looks wonderful!
Skuns man!! Congratulations for the map is looking gorgeous! Someone have to create a Dgen campaign for it!!
I'd be happy to help with a trial run and give feedback. Your hard work is much appreciated. This is something many thought would never happen.
I think "Pappy" is over his hangover and the "Black Sheep" are warmin' up! Gonna' be another "pier 6" brawl up there.
Skunkmeister, I'm just coming into this whole modding issue, since I completekly left IL2 in April 2006 due to family health issues and other R/L issues, AND because the PTO was getting stale without proper maps. I came back to the game 2 weeks ago to find 1946, patch 4.08 , and the modding controversy. I can't mod because i bought 1946 through the download, which is mod protected, but I found a DVD on ebay today so soon I will be giving these a try. I just want to say....I think I love you! Your maps are gorgeous and just what I've been waiting for! I nearly pissed myself when I saw this thread and then your maps. I hope Rabaul is around the corner  ...I'd help but don't know squat about how to do what you and the others are doing with these mods. But I will build missions when its done and put them out for people to try, for what that's worth.
P.S. Listen to Spuds, he knows of what he speaks. No hangers and built-up facilities, except maybe in Rabaul or other limited areas; please, let us build them in missions if needed, but like others have said, there was no real infrastructure in most areas of the Solomons.
One more thing...I assume these maps and other mods work offline as well as online, correct? I only play offline.
Again, thank you so much for re-invigorating the PTO in IL2!
Mark

LoL
Yes Mark, I will do Rabaul very soon.
I really pushed it with regards to map size for this one, its 825.6 x 601.6 Km. Anything bigger would be quite difficult to manage with our map making tools. So for now its Guadalcanal to Bougainville, which I hope will satisfy many.
Next up, I will reuse parts of this map and try to go for something like Vella Lavella to Rabaul, but I'll have to see exactly to what point I can push the map sizes, because for now it is still unknown. I'd really like to do Leyte Gulf/Luzon soon. Seeing the Slovakia map also gave me a hankering for an Austria map.
As far as offline/online play goes, for now I've only tested it offline. I've made several trips around Bougainville, New Georgia and around Guadalcanal. I still have to make a few test missions though.
Also, bear in mind that my system is fairly high end, so I dont know how this map will perform on lower end systems yet. But it works really well in Perfect mode so far.

In about 2 weeks time, I will be sending this map to 10 beta testers from this forum.
Here are the names on that list so far:
