The Slot

Your pics are a tad small, duffy.

What I can make out from the post above is that you use excellent settings and you are seeing the far map in the distance. Its a separate file that I have to work on for you folks with lower end systems.

Actually...try this: go in the Slot folder and delete the map_f.tga file. Copy ed_m02.tga, and rename it to map_f.tga. Should help a bit.

Yea the area in the distance, around the horizon kind of washes out, very blurry. Distant islands appear to kinda float in the air.

Hey Cheech, what you provided me with for my texts file, are the coordinates compatible with my map or are they taken directly from Oleg's map?

I would be glad to volunteer my services for object placement, assuming I'm smart enough to pull it off.

As for the islets that are missing textures, I found 3 in grid CU-4-num6 and one in AE-51-num9.

They are taken directly from your map. I even checked them for proper placement 8)
All you have to do is paste them right into your texts.txt file.

Testing ran fine. A few bugs found, sent them in via PM. SMooth as silk, frames in the 30's most of the time, dipping to 19 now and then. 3.4g, 4gig ram, X1950Pro 512meg, 1680x1050 Widescreen HD.

I wouldn't worry about it being BIG and slow to load etc.....you can bet that SOW will need even more resources than this...
everyone who loves this sim will be upgrading their computers sometime in the near future...and plenty of RAM has always been useful to speed map loading and help reduce stutter over big maps like Berlin....so those of us with 2 Gb RAM will need to get another 2 Gb for SOW anyway

don't reduce your map for playability NOW....but let peoples hardware 'catch up' with it later..

you can always produce a simpler version later ...after this is completed

I think that found problem and possible solution/optimization (works for me) with long loading time in FMB and great memory eating.

It’s in the 2D “maps ed_m01.tga” and “ed_m02.tga”

One is in resolution 8256x6016 and weights enormous 142 Mb and the other is 4108x3008 and weights 47 Mb. I assume that bigger is for FMB 2D view and smaller is in game map view?

I shrinked bigger one to 1200x864 and now its weight is just 3Mbs
I shrinked smaller to600x437 and weight now is 768 Kbs

Memory saving is big, loading time fell from 7 minutes to 45 second (yes, I have used the stopwatch)

Handling in FMB is much easier and smoother.
Although big zoom on 2D in FMB is now somewhat blurry I think it is worth of it.

Skunk, I think that 2D map (if it doesn’t have some other function that is) must be done in some other technique, not copy-paste from that SRTM program (if I am not mistaken)

Maybe drawn by hand? Or maybe to put some real period map? That would be cool too, if it is possible.

With this, even with just 512Mb of memory it is possible to play. I am not yet fly it with this changings, but its works in the FMB with ease now and in 3D view everything seems OK.
