I'm working also on the torpedo values. Altered values is not allowed, but sometimes this does mean don't play at all.
An example, the italian MG SAFAT 12,7,
Macchi 200 is a very nice fighter, a real pleasure to fly: nice model, nice skin, superb cockpit ecc. ecc.. The problem is that this fighter is only nice for scenary, as static object. It's really impossible play it for ex. against Rata and Lagg-3. Because of this policy, we can't play it at all. No thank.
We are using hacked SAFAT, altered with real data, and now we can play Macchi. It's still very difficult shot down the enemy fighters, but at least we can...AFTER YEARS...play the maccaroni in IL2.
The same for the Kate.
As said above, we have played a Midway's campaign in SEOW. The japaneses were only a nice target for the US Navy. We couldn't sink at all the US carriers with Val. A ridiculous campaign were we lose one carrier for each mission, because of 4 SBD, when we couldn't do nothing with 14 Val, against american carriers like the Lexington. As you say, DM is probably the real problem.
So the policy to don't altered values in this kinde of situations is a nonsense. We are not talking about Spitfire or FW-190 FM.
Today we can't still play the Battle of Midway........
Personally because of it, i've added myself Kaga, Hiryu and Soryu (for SEOW), changed the FM for Kate and now i'm working on the torpedo values. My target is to give to the IJN players "the feeling to be dangerous" against the american fleet, and to the USN players "the feeling to be vulnerable". For this kinde of campaign, SBD is more than enough for US Navy.
