Palau repaintV1 - airfields arriving
#16

Hi Redko,

I've been playing around with getting different water textures on one map and have nearly succeeded in getting 3 water textures on one map so that you can have reefs and shallows and different
river textures, this is still a wip but heres some pics of Palau map that i've been experimenting on

these pics demonstrate that it is possible to have multiple water textures on one map but right now only one texture remains whole while the 2 added ones are very broken up, this is the problem that i'm trying to solve at the moment

Interresting. who is responsable for the repaint of the map itself, the textures look nice ?

"Bombsaway i would be glad if you could participate to the project. do you already have textures like you first pic but with a more sandy look ?"

I would be glad to help Big Grin I can check my folders for a sandy one and if not I'll make one Big Grin When you decide on the way you will work the shallows" with one texture or help from Ziggy-22" let me know and send me the map you have almost finished so I can match the color of my texture to your land textures. I'm going back to work in real life so I'm on at different times lately but I will be able to make a texture for you if needed. Big Grin

Skunkmeister Wrote:Adding in reefs and shallows require that you edit the Map_C.tga file of the map.

Take a look at the Tarawa map to get an idea of how they achieve the effect and experiment.

holy crap !!!! I found. Thanks skunkmeister. Just used cmap tool...map moding rocks!!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

what a powerful feeling when you find the key of the problem. I will be able to apply my painting technic to corals now  . There some maps i wanted to ad deltas where rivers meet seas. Now i know how to do that!

I wanted to say that I very much appreciate the work that you are doing. Any chance that Oleg is following this topic??

Please continue to create these fantastic mods!

Well i think he follows...he must! because mods have reach the level so hight since the original game that his Storm Of war must be beyond this if he wants to have a commercial sucess with it

Yes, redko, that thought has crossed my mind many times about Oleg looking in the AAA forums. I woudn't be surprised if he spends a little time every day at it. It has been discussed plenty of times at AAA. For a fact, his subordinates and associates are in here. Smile

Hi redko

I'm responsible for the repaint but they,re not my own textures they come from various sources, i really just wanted the island looking half decent so that i could work on my water experiments and try to achieve a sence of realism, here's a few more

The fantastic water textures are by Bombsaway and i hope to able to eventually get 3 of his textures working on this map, the palau stock map is one of the few maps that this can be applied to as it already has 2 different water textures to work with and i've discovered that if you make new maps using the palau map as a template instead of the pacific islands map then 2 water textures is relatively easy to achieve. the rest of the work involves using map_c. If you look at the bottom pic you will see that the water texture in the foreground and the water texture behind the island are different.

Ok so now i can create shallow waters at will  .

Here some pics with some test textures for corals, i have to get some more sandy. It looks to carpeted for the moment. Who remember the old map ?

Before...this is supposed to be the Pacific....

Better. This is where we start. Chichi and Tarawa need also a little repaint. At least we will be able to take advantage of Phil_K PTO compains

your map look very nice ziggy-22. good textures, realistic. you never released this version of the map, even without having solved your shallow water problem ?

Redko, that's progress.

May I suggest rotating the placement in order to trick the viewer's mind into thinking that it is random? Do you know what I am trying to express?

Hey....what about your hawaii project ?

Okay, if you have the same object and want to make it appear random to the viewer's mind instead of an obvious pattern, then this is what to do.

1) Randomly pivot or rotate each placement of the object, in this case essentially a texture, so as to break the pattern appearance ( like the pattern of a mowed lawn or a carpet repeating pattern ).

2) Blend the edges of them together a bit to further conceal that they are in fact identical in geometry.

I hope that I was clear this time. Smile

AH- well once I realized the other Hawaiian map included what I was going to do (rather well I might add Wink ), I dropped that.

I have other wacky ideas about maps I am hoping to express at some time, but meanwhile I have real life has come down on me depriving me of the time I would spend on such a project.

I may not have time for time right now, but a quick alt-tab over to my web browser I can at least follow your improvements 8)

Thanks- it's great fun to watch your progress Big Grin
