Thanks a lot, EoW_WhamO_CO! Big Grin
Nice screens, I installed it now and it is indeed an excellent and big map, with lots of charme of its own. All Hawaiian islands..And very cool objects in it on top. :!:

Cheers

This Map is a Beauty...flew the entire length of the Islands- Great fun ...took a substantial FPS ove r Pearl..I was lucky the Fleet was out to sea!
Many thanks!
P.S. Doolittle - it worked fine with HSfX 4.11 install No will try the added vehicles patch mentioned mid way this post...

I've always liked that it has the historic target range island Kahoolawe! It was activated just after Pearl Harbor, and sorties from Pearl, Henderson or one of the other islands make for a nice realistically long mission as IRL. As the saying would go that aerial combat was hours of boredom punctuated by moments of terror. That is one aspect of flight simulation that you can bring into your simpit as long as you have a big enough map and enough free time Wink

Thanks again for this map-- still enjoying it.

Don't know if there already are quick missions for this map but here is a very comprehensive tutorial of how to make (simple) missions in FMB:

The problem to make a QM here is that you must have a blue base and setup the blue flights as well: in this case it would be somewhat historical to have the Japanese carriers somewhere, but doing so even if you don't want to activate the blues just to fly around the Hawaii, you would still have an enemy fleet lurking around... Better off if you build yourself an OTU mission using FMB as linked above, populate the islands with aircraft, flights, and the whole American fleet: this is a great place to practice all sorts of flying skills...

For all fans of porto72's and Saburo Sakai's wondeful mapwork, I collected some screens of a checkflight through this map. Even if I'd prefer some redko textures here and there Big Grin ...

The topographical details, the cities, details in general are fascinating.
If we only had some big waves in IL-2 Cry ..I can almost see Laird Hamilton and his buddies surf at Peahi
I think I will import the water color from Czech Texan's Puerto Rico map. That wouldn't be necessarily more accurate, but I always liked that colour..

I love the way different geographical structures go hand in hand, very inspired work from porto72 and Saburo Sakai!

The first post covers anything one needs to know for a save install, even I managed it.

http://www.4shared.com/account/file/128 ... ack3b.html

it uses ships from the shippack2 ...so if you do not have that installed....open the mission in the FMB first..then save....and this will strip off all the extra stuff not on your install from the mission file..

I believe Saburo Sakai is also working on a more historically accurate mission too

This is only for very fast computers or you'll get a slide-show

also best enjoyed with the special effects mod and Battlesounds mod

you are pilot of a D3A and take=off from Akagi to attack with the second wave...so put it on auto pilot and watch the first wave go in....

Just tried this & it is beautiful, complex & very watchable since player is in second wave...Ships in Harbor almost look the part ( they are Russian aren't they?) Japanese are very talkitive aren't they...making it a pretty noisey affair. It is so wonderfully busy that my FPS took a major hit after fires at Pearl started.
Alas just as I was about to try to hit the fleeing Nevada I got the dreaded "String Index out of place must shut down ..."message...I wonder why ...I guess my PC just got exhausted huh?
4 stars anyhow!!!

Believe me, there is a lot of more to see! For example most of the lighthouses are represented (at the correct positions), and a lot of military installations (not only the airbases) on Oahu and some landmarks: hotels, old buildings (russian forts ...) and so on...

Now we only need a set of QMB missions .

Regarding objects, atmosphere and immersion this is one of the best maps I ever flew in!
The airbases at Oahu are simply amazing! Same for the cities and villages.

I took the freedom to use Czech Texan's Puerto Rico water color (for my taste, not for the sake of realism) and enable stratus clouds in my load.ini of this beauty, if anyone is interested, here is the link:

Thanks for the pics Tom. You are rendering justice to this excellent map...among the Best Ever made in il2 and leaved into the dark unfortunatly. Not enough people speaking about it.
Take your jet to Muna Kea...that SUPERB
