technics ini is not involved in the shippack mod so it must be stationary ini
the old ships before Pacific-fighters were in the technics ini...now all the new ones are in the ships ini

Thanks asheshouse - will first download your suggested WinMerge utility and fiddle from there. Perhaps there is a compromise - I was hestitant to post again about the vanishing aircraft problem in case I looked foolish, but I guess my problems may be a guide and helpful to others in the future. With a click of heels and a brisk salute he says, 'Will report back.' DW
tried all that was stated before in this threat - edited or merged all ini files i could find, but the only way to get the ship pack 2 working, was to remove the stationary AC mod
ShipPack2 installs a stationary.ini file and a technics.ini file.
Static_AC also installs these files but in a different location.
The ShipPack2 files are in root/MODS/STD/com/maddox/il2/objects
The Static_AC files are in root/MODS/Static_Aircraft/com/maddox/il2/objects
Also have you got a root/files folder -- if so check there for duplicates.
You need to create a merged version of each of these files.
Use the Winmerge or Swiftcompare utilities you can find in Google.
Remove the existing double copies of the files and put back only your merged files into root/MODS/STD/com/maddox/il2/objects
Keep a backup of your working installation
curious, I tried a modded pearl harbor mission. I noticed some soviet ships at pearl harbor. Is this something that might happen with the shippack?
ShipPack2 includes clones of Russian destroyers repainted and reflagged to represent other nations. Since they are in new slots there should be no confusion. ShipPack2 does not change any existing ship models. I really like the clones repainted to represent Italian navy warships. Very convincing.

First of all a big thank you for the efforts put into this game by the modders. Having struggled with fixing the Ship Pack 2 problem, I can all the more appreciate the work necessary on their part to get these beautiful mods to run and the problems they have to solve. As such I am amazed that the mods usually DO work.
Ok, having said this, here is the situation I faced and how I solved it, based in no small part on the advice given on this board. I am just trying to rephrase in a more comprehensive way what I read here and interpreted with some trouble into the correct approach (for my particular, but seemingly not uncommon problem). Here it goes:
I) Starting situation:
Fresh Installation of 1946 with 4.08 patch
added basic mods of the Unified installer
added ShipPack2
added .ini files from the ShipPack2 to MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects (note, I did not have any besides the air.ini there, so a merge was neither possible nor necessary).
II) Initial problem:
Games loads to 70%, then crashes to desktop (sounds familiar if you are reading this thread?)
III) Cause (Assumption on my part and from what I read here)
A conflict with the .ini files in MODS\Static_AC\com\maddox\il2\objects
IV) Solution (Worked for me in this precise case, might not if you are starting from a different installation
Downloaded Winmerge http://www.winmerge.org/ and installed it
Started Winmerge, opened MODS\Static_AC\com\maddox\il2\objects\technics.ini and
MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\technics.ini and let the program merge them
into MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\technics.ini (careful, one exception, do not merge
the difference in the end, the missing ship related entries in the MOD\Static_AC file or it will delete
them).
repeat with the stationary.ini files
At this point, the ini files in STD should have all the entries from those in Static_AC
Check this by searching for the Spit Mk1 or the Beau Mk10 in the STD files
Finally, delete (AFTER BACKING THEM UP!!) the technics.ini and the stationary.ini file in
MODS\Static_AC
Check if this worked by starting IL-2 and checking in the Full Mission Builder if you can see the
Spit Mk1 under View -> Objects -> Stationary Aircraft
I hope this was helpful and if anyone of the more experienced user can give additional insights or correct anything I said, please do so, this was mostly the result of trial and error.
I followed your instructions, and everything is working fine now, both the Statc_AC and ShipPack2!
Thanks!

Hey everyone:
Since Barakoma on Vella Lavella was supplied by barges only, I have need of the MFPT and MFPIT as stationary ships. I tried adding lines in the Stationary.ini file in the same syntax as the other lines but had CTD at 70%. Any suggestions?
Great days all.

Man, I hear ya! I've kinda been where you are right now and at one point completely deleted my modded IL2! The only thing that saved me was a backup I'd made just days before on another hard drive. I backed up the entire game as I'd changed a couple of .dll files and couldn't remember what they were.
The version I deleted was the UI. For some reason I just couldn't get to first base with it. For one thing, UI apparently only works with AAA approved downloads. ShipPacks 1 & 2 are WIP (works in progress) and must be installed by hand. Other mods I wanted are also WIPs.
So, I went back to my working, modded, non-UI IL2. Something I finally noticed was, early on I had installed a mod called DAMAGEMOD that had several .ini files in it. There is another folder in the MODS folder called STD. Inside it were a couple of .ini files that were in DAMAGEMOD.
I opened the files that were the same in each folder, compared them line by line (a task that took forever), and made the necessary corrections in the file in the STD folder. After all the files from the DAMAGEMOD folder were either placed in the STD folder or had been appended to files that already existed in the STD folder, I deleted the DAMAGEMOD folder.
Now, something I haven't run into yet, and shouldn't at this point, is .ini files in folders other than the two I've mentioned here; this is something you'll have to watch for.
As for maps: I've only DL'd a few of them. I ran into a problem early on, a situation similar to what you've got. I decided, from that point on, I'd watch the forum on that map and wait until at least four pages had gone by before attempting another one. I settled on the four pages by watching various threads and discovered that the first page was devoted to high praise of a map that was needed/wanted. Page two started to show the problems encountered. Page three started the work-arounds and bug-fixes. By the end of page four the high praise started again. At this point I figured it was safe to DL that map. It's worked for me so far...
Long winded though this may be, I guess the moral of this story is: When you've got a working version with mods, back up that whole version. Or, at the very least, back up the MODS folder. Oh, and don't be too hasty to DL a mod.
Great days all.
The golden rule is ensure you only have one copy of each file type in your install.
So only one copy of each *.ini file. *.properties and buttons. These are the ones causing most problems.
In my opinion these files should be installed in the appropriate sub directory in root/MODS/STD
Some older installers put them in different locations, root/files for example.
Aircraft mods from other sites may not be compatible with AAA mods (eg Mohawk)
Before you do an install open up the self installer using Winrar and look to see what it is going to install. You can check to see if any existing files will be overwritten before installing.
If you want to merge different copies of the same ini file use WinMerge or SwiftCompare.
Its quicker and more reliable than doing it manually.
I'm not trying to sound like a cop out, but is there any chance that this mod just simply will not work on my computer? Now that I have downloaded winmerge and here in a moment I will make a fresh install of Il2 it will mean I have tried everything stated on this thread. I really wish I knew how to get these ships to show up in the game. I can't think of anything else I could be doing wrong. I have already tried searching for ANY files with the same name and deleting them...Still, no luck. Man, I have NEVER had this much trouble with any game I have modified :x Well, at any rate, after I reinstall the game (just would like a fresh copy) could anyone maybe walk me through the installation process for this seemingly troublesome shippack. Seems like such an awesome mod and not to mention, the Countdown to Love, Hot Dirty Love and the Checkerboards campaign seem pretty sweet! I really want to get this damn thing to work! Thanks a bunch guys for the help already...Please don't think I'm trying to whine...this is just really quite frustrating!
