ojcar Wrote:I'd like this idea a lot! My project for China Theatre campaings is paralised because the only suitable map is the Burma map now. I'd like to have some European map to use as a China map (or the Manchuria map). I'd like to add the new maps (Nomonhan, for example), and the possibility of making all the planes flyable in a campaing. I'd like also to make flyable in some campaings some of the "hack planes" I have in campaings (I-185 as Ki-44, Ki-27 as Fokker D-XXI, etc). I'd also like to add the new flyable planes.
I know there is DCG, but I'd like to stay in DGEN. I don't like the "a pilot/squad winning the war" idea. If there is a DCG tuning to make the campaings overcome historically, I would change for DCG

Oh its possible. How much time do you have to put into it though? It won't take excessive amounts of time, but it will take effort and alittle patience ...

You gents are of course entitled to your opinion, as am I. I actually prefer DCG. I don't know where you guys are getting this DGen has more varied mission types? Anyway, what you got to realize is that DCG can be tweaked more so than DGen. That means MORE options. I get fuller more varied missions with DCG then I ever got with DGen, but to each thier own ...

I'll switch back to Dgen if some good soul manage to make app for tuning parameters ( add planes, squadrons, loadings ....).

And yes, different time of a day is one of DCG features which i miss the most with Dgen

Please don't flame me over this....

The biggest weakness of DGen has always been the need to manually edit text files. It deters all but the most committed people from making DGen campaigns.

Starshoy was once questioned about this on SimHQ but he didn't seem to understand the need for an editor, such as DCG has. (I think, in reality, he didn't want to be bothered by the need to update an editing program, in the way that Lowengrin does).

One example - to assign a skin in DCG takes a couple of clicks. For DGen, you must first find the map being used by your campaign, then the correct .DB file (not always easy), then copy the name of the chosen skin into the file using a particular protocol and then save the change. Do this 20 times and you soon find out what 'boredom' really means.

Scharnhorst, what I don't like in DCG is the possibility of winning the war alone. If it is realistic, Rudel or Hartmann would win the war alone. I like DGEN for the frustration too. The war is the same with or without me, and my only goal is to survive.... It's my playing style, I think. But if someone teaches me to tuning DCG for historical overcome, I'll try it.

I share ojcar's point of view :
- For me, the basic thing I want in my Dynamic Campaign is to be able to follow the general historical course of the campaign and "playing" all the "climax".
However imperfect it is, I am sure that DGEN does it more or less as I want it, which is not the case for DCG, as far as I know.

Yes please, I think that a Dgen modification is the one most needed.

thats the part of the dgen.exe which has most bugs, I never could make all skins show which were added to db file + custom pilot textures are generated only for the 1/1 flight although there are 31 pilot skins for each nation Confusedhock:

other dgen problem which would be cool to fix is that no random flights generated in most of the missions despite that added conf.ini parameter, or at least it doesnt seems to work for me, but worked in 2.04 version

Hello vpmedia,

Well actually it works! I really see random flights generated if I add the line RandomFlights=5 to my conf.ini, under a [DGen] section I created at the end of the file.

For the skins assignments, it is actually not bugged as far as I could experience - and I have done a lot recently in this regard, to fix/improve my own campaigns -. However, there are constraints: the skin file name shall not contain any space in it, and the skin assignment in the DB must refer to a .bmp file name with no space in it. Furthermore, a "$" at the beginning of the skin file name prevents the nationality markings and code numbers to appear on top of what is already in the skin .bmp file.

Thanks to all for the comments, and let us hope that DGen.exe modding can be done after 4.09m is released.

Well I wouldbe willing to show not only you, but I could start a DCG thread on how to set it up and tweak it to that on just about every map the historical outcome is achieved. If you or anyone else is willing. I am actually working on my own DCG campaigns that will replace the stock ones. There might be historical inacuracies in the maps themselves, but anyone could correct them and my maps would follow a "more so" historical outcome. I guess I could tweak my own campaign and maybe release it? Either way, I would STILL need to show all involved how to tweak DCG. It is not even that hard either, just maybe slightly time consuming.

Thoughts, opinions, questions?

Should I do it as a Private Topic, with all who want to know, or just an open thread? Which would you guys prefer?
