The "Cheechman"?

The map looks fantastic, can't wait to see it in person.

Yeah, Cheech is the callsign I picked up when I was at the United States Naval Academy in the mid-1970s. It stuck with me through flight school and my 27.5 years in the US Navy, and even followed me to the virtual skies of IL2. Most assume it refers to Cheech Marin from Cheech and Chong, but it's actually based on the comic strip "Cheech Wizard", created by artist Vaughn Bode. Cheech appeared in various works, including the National Lampoon, from 1967 until Bode's death in 1975.

According to Wikepedia, Cheech was depicted as foul mouthed, often drunk, and constantly on the make. His attitude towards his fellow residents of the magic forest in which he lived (generally talking male animals and human females, the latter invariably under-dressed) was usually one of contempt. Curiously, he was referred to (often by himself) as the Cartoon Messiah, which suggested Bode's long-standing interest in religion. But his general reaction to anyone that annoyed him (and the list there is quite long) was to deliver a swift kick to the groin. 8)

Just beautiful. My new wallpaper Smile

I notice that the incidental 3D trees that cluster around the forests are still the old bright green ones. If you change the [APPENDIX] entry to: Tree0 = Trees/sk_AlteredBush8a.tga you should get darker trees that are more sympathetic to the new forest texture.

I understand though that simple load .ini changes such as that are purely a matter of individual taste and don't really compare to the ground breaking work that goes into making this incredible map. Congratulations to all involved. And to think they said it couldn't be done!

Skunk did the lions share of the work, and Bee came up with the texture. My job is to "randomize the textures so that they appear natural, without opening up the jungle to an unrealistic level.

What's amazing is how many square miles of terrain there is on this map. Key are comfortable chair, arse planted firmly on said chair, gallons of coffee, and good music 8)

Will try your suggestion Bee and see how it looks.

I know your story Cheech, I'm FA_Sparrow. I was giving you a hard time for referring to yourself in 3rd person.

BTW, I'm a long time fan of the bode(SP) family comics. Check out Cobalt60.

Ok, just finished reading all 22 pages and I am pooped! You guys are doing an awsome job! I can't believe I will get to finally have a Slot map! There are so may important missions on this map I just can not believe Oleg left it out.

Keep me informed on the progress while I go unpack my controls and dust them off. I might better even go around the pattern in the F4U a few times.

For those of you that never got to see them, here are some films I made while daydreaming of flying off the real Barakoma combat flight sim airfield!

What's so amazing to me is that a single person, with a little help has managed to bang out a better pacific map in a few weeks with no official tools, and little understanding of what was needed (compared to the devs) than the PF team managed to build.

WTF were they thinking iwth trying to keep map making some super secret? They could have put out map tools years ago, and there would be HUNDREDS of quality maps by now.

It boggles the mind.

skunk, cheech, bee, et al.
