The Slot

PCD folder with tex here ("Link removed see below") I'm using the new wrapper now, if you're not you'll have to place the appropriate entries into Filelist.txt I would guess.

Arrow Note the Piva aerodrome is visible inland past Torokina in the last pic. you can see the fighter and bomber strips at Piva.

the Piva field isn't currently built on the slot map. Also note the postion of the Torokina airstrip in relation to Torokina point and the small island. this will also need some attention as we currently have it too far east.

Thanks a bunch Neil...

But where do I get static.ini? Which sfs file has the latest one?

Skunk, should this new marsden mat become the standard for allied bases? Alternately, should the existing overly dark one simply be replaced so that all the maps already done instantly look better?

It should perhaps be a lighter steel gray color, with dust on top. I'd be inclined to replace the awful near black we have entirely.

Yes the one we have on the defalt Guadalcanal, I'm sorry to say, dosen't look good at all. It looks too pristine. Edges are too sharp and clean. The tropical atmosphere, it would seem, would raise, holy heck with just about everything. Constant heavy use would make it look very worn, IMHO. Some of it might even seem to disappear under the soil. 'Course, it's just my opinion. (That and 50 cents wouldn't buy you a hamburger at McDonalds.) But you do want these airdromes to look used. As Sir Topham Hatt would say: "Usefulness before cleanliness."

Spud, having visited this area during my days in the USN, I can testify to the fact that this area gets over 100 inches of rain a year. IMHO, the matting would quicky sink down into the mud under load, but still provide support. Once the mud oozes up through the holes in the matting the apperance from the air, IMHO, would closely match the textures you are currently using.

Cool.

BTW, a question for anyone who might know...

When the actors.static is extracted so that it can be merged with another (assuming I'm understanding that technique properly), is it a text file? If so, is it possible to replace one type of runway with another?

It would be nice to be able to lasso a whole runway assembly (say alone on a map for simplicity), then save the actors.static, open it, and switch it to dirt from coral and then import it back ans see what it looks like. All the shapes are the same, so it should work, right?

Same idea might be used to bang out a US base after it gets taken from the japanese.

Another semi-related question to the new marsden mats... can such objects be added tot he regular FMB! Ditto for the bridges, etc.

Imaging the help it would be for regular mission builders, you could have the ability to have fields under construction, etc...

Yes it is a text file once extracted, you can find/replace strings with a text editor.
