Excellent public relations!

I'll be happy when Spud finishes Barakoma...lol

I have only flown the F4U once around the patch since "finding" this site! Got the old controls dusted off and ready to go. Flew the Tiger Moth a few times as well as the Storch.

that Tiger moth is great for just pottering around enjoying the scenery...but it wuldn't have enough fuel for this map...lol...it takes half an hour from Caen to london on fly_zo's BoB map

I wish we had a Stinson L-5! I forget what the Navy/Marines called theirs. Use the Storch Flight Model! Good enough for me. I use to own a Fairchild 24 (radial). I love to see one of those too.

Having drooled, many times in the past, over IL2 maps that were under construction, I know what it's like to wonder if they will get this right, and that right, etc.

So, I thought I would post a few screen shots of the areas we just completed, so that you get some idea of what to expect. As I hope you can see, we are trying to capture the combat areas, as faithfully as the limitations of the simulation allow.

Actual combat photo of Gavutu-Tanambogo

In-Game version, same area - note Skunk's superb coral reefs

Combat area west of Lunga Point - white areas are kunai grass
[Image: seahorse_2.jpg]
In-game Version of same area - note Seahorse and Galloping Horse areas, for comparison

Won't be too much longer guys 8)

Excellent work!

Can I make a suggestion though? As constructive criticism, I think that you should not include anything like oil drums in the map- that makes the drums always there, they are like buildings. Static and immovable. Every time you see the area, the same oil drums, as if on permanent static display, when in reality they were not always arrayed like that all the time. I advise losing them. maps from RRG and 1C:Maddox had these drums...and it's always a PITA for the mission builder if you ask me.

I'm stunned by the work you guys are doing. I actually asked if I could help- you guys obviously do not need input on how to make scenery

Yeah, I'd agree. I'd tend to err on the side of "less is more" WRT buildings. OTOH, such designs could easily form a template .mis file.

Just wanted to post a few more screen shots of nothing at all. Notice the beautiful terrain on the island of Guadalcanal in the background behind these F4U1's flying over Florida Island...man I think that SRTM terrain looks awesome with the new extended range views.

The long view and this map do pair wonderfully, you are right. I wish I could get the clouds to render farther out.

None the less, it is neat to be over on island, and you can see the next. Yocan see Santa Isabel from just off the New Georgia coast, for example. Way cool.
