Here is something small I have my eyes on.
Operation Cleanslate and Tonails, the invasion of the Russell, and New Georgia Islands. Which constitutes the next step up the Slot from Guadalcanal.
Most of the Action is spring and summer of 1943.
My goal is to make this very very historiclly accurate. I've found several maps, and chats of Naval activity in and around the central solomons.
Thanks to some good tips from PT i've got service records of what (ComSoPac) Commander South Pacific Haulsey was up to. What the 1st MAW (Marine Air Wing) were up to, and even what MAG-21 (Marine Air Group) was up to, however, its hard to break it down any lower than that.
What I want is a record, or log of Missions within MAG-21, basicly what their squadrons were up to.
I do however plan to insert a dynamic aspect to this campaign by having some of the missions (that are not historical battles, but rather CAP's and such) to be multi listed. Meaning as i've talked about before, that the Computer would randomly pic which CAP you would fly that day, giving you a sense of suprise even if you had played the campaign before.
Both Co-Op and Single player versions would be generated also.
*Bows down to Pacific Team*
One thing to consider when a map-maker is populating his map with buildings.......campaigns!!!!
never mind the small moveable objects like vehicles, net shelters, oil drums etc.....theycertainly should not be put on a map using the Tools FMB....
But .....Buildings of a substantial nature should......because in il2....in campaigns they stay destroyed from previous missions
something which doesn't apply to buildings added by the mission maker
just to remind you.....
That gives me an idea. fabianfred, have you ever considered giving a ground plate a damage model...
Wonder if it would work. BOmb runway (since the craters time out) and you have a cratered texture on the damaged version...
It is not the cratered 'look' which is so important....but the fact that craters will break the undercarriage of any plane trying to cross one......
I do remember ... a long time ago....one of the patches did actually extend the life of the craters....but only by a little bit....maybe from 30 secs to one minute...so there must be a variable in there somewhere..
and.....of course....craters can be filled in much quicker than new buildings can be put up
I agree for online play. For offline, or even SOME online applications, look would be all that mattered. Ie: you could have a campaign, and the target field would be cratered from previous strikes. the player would never land there, and as mission/campaign designer, you simply do not TO or land any planes from that field/runway.

Wich model of Zero is the most common on the Solomons?
A6M2 and A6M3 I think.......... doubt if the later models ever reached the area.
correct, and the zero float, and the Ki-43
