Damn this is a bitch to skin, the modeller had no fricken idea!

That was pretty much what the people at MG said too.

I reckon there is at least another 12 weeks of work to get all the textures to a basic finish. I am no texture artist but will post the basic rendered textures so hopefully the true artists can finish the job properly. I am working left, right, back, all the time tweeking the front. And I WILL be posting at least once a week until the job is done. Then onto the Bubbletop!

If it wasn't for the great efforts of Poncho to fix that damned gunsight I would not have taken this further.

Keep up the good work guys. I'll try to stay patient and look for your updates. It's looking good so far.

FlushMeister has an expressed an interest in the p47 cockpit and he's a very good artist:

You might want to work with him on this?

Good luck with the project.

I've made some progress with the gunsight part of the cockpit, so I've done my 5% - now Taurus get busy with the other 95%. Seriously though I understand what rough going it is working with meshes that aren't exactly right, so I really appreciate the progress you have made.

Since I checked in last I was able to create the class files needed to make the gunsights progress from N3 in the P47_D10 to Mk8 in the D22 and D27 and the K-14 in the P47 Late.

I also edited the mesh files for the N3 gunsight and got rid of the ghosting in the canopy, there is still an artifact left to get rid of- but at least this one can only be seen using 3DOF and looking up from the floor. Also did some touchup on the sights so that they look a little cleaner.

There are a couple of things I would still like to do if all goes well. First I would like to add a static gunsight where appropriate, and secondly add some 3D to the reflector on the K14 sight.

I will post some screens in a few days if I have anything worth showing.

Progress report: I have all of the P47 model/gunsight combinations set up to work in a single mod. Screenshots presented below.

Improvements over the first beta are 1) correct gunsight applied to each model. 2) most of the artifacts cleaned up for the D10. 3) 3d restored to the reflector on the K14. 4)battle damaged sights appear as they should.

There is a little wedge missing from the top lens on the Mk8 sight, this was a flaw in the original sight from the SBD5, I will try to correct this before the final release. Also I am still tinkering with static gun sights- we'll see.

D10 + N3 sight

D22 + MkVIII sight

D27 + MkVIII sight

D-Late + K14 sight

Taurus,

Thanks for the tga files. I tried them out and they worked fine Smile .

I will check on the parts you want tonight. Based on my experience so far I would say that all of these parts could be had. The difficulty is always chopping unwanted 3D data from the mesh file.

So the ideal donor component has its own mesh file, a component like this could be used as is with some editing of file names. The most difficult situation is when the component you want is meshed in a multipurpose mesh file with about 2 dozen other components.

This was the case with the N3 gunsight used on the D10. But I am getting better at chopping mesh files, so if a part is wanted badly enough I think I can get it.

I wanted to comment on my personal preference for weathered or new looking textures for the P47 cockpit repaint. I know that weathered textures are very popular right now, I like them too.

However, I don't know why -but I find myself wanting to see the P47 cockpit in factory new condition - for once.
