discuss only** Thailand-East Burma-Indo-China map

Fred,

I just now got around to installing this version of the map. First I would like to say thank you for all of your hard work on this theater, you efforts have given all mission builders a wonderful new canvas to use. Smile

Second, I installed the map as per your read me from the opening page of this thread and had the "no save" issue. Upon further reading into the thread I realized that I had omitted the the static.ini lines that were included and installed with the map. After adding these lines to the static.ini I can save and have the entire map in all of its glory...with your wonderful trees included! I seem to have no other issues with any other maps either stock or add-on. Everything is working perfectly! Big Grin

My only major problem now is, I have to create new AVG airfield layouts and missions! This does not bother me though....I enjoy creating missions very much. I am also currently reading "Flying Tigers: Claire Chennault and His American Volunteers, 1941-1942" by Daniel Ford The book has increadible history and is VERY well researched. It even has discriptions of the layouts at Toungoo and Mingaladon (but sadly, no pictures of these fields) I am going to start doing some historical AVG missions soon based on what this book portrays as it seems to be very accurate. I am only about 1/4 of the way through the book so I will be building missions as I read the accounts from the book. If you would like to try some of these missions I will gladly pass them on to you when completed.

Thank you Fred.....this map is a treasure! Big Grin

Never could get this map to save - looks great BTW.

Added lines to static ini. removed the little box that was mentioned earlier.
Even downloaded & tried Bee's static.ini.
I have the hangar mod (915 objects total now).
Have kt channel map - which saves fine.

Strange - ill try it again when it reaches final.

God - just in case there should be someone else as dense as me, there are two files that need to be pasted to static.ini.
mod hangar readme.txt
and
thailand add to static ini.txt

Now have 844 objects & the map now saves. Enough to drive me to drink - in fact good idea.

Once you download & install the kt channel map & the hangar mod file as mentioned earlier, you should have two text files. One is called Mod Hangar readme.txt.
The other one is called thailand_add to static_ini.txt which will come with the Thailand map download.
You need to open these 2 files & use copy/paste to add the lines enclosed to your static.ini file.
Once you open the files it will explain what to do.
You also should have the line ffb_thailand ffb_thailand/load.ini in your all.ini file.
(if the line has a small box in front then remove the box)

When I got it right I had 844 map objects in the install.

Hope this helps.

I'm not the best at explaining -

you should have
Kt channel map installed
Thailand map installed
Hangar mod installed

also the 2 text files need to be added to static.ini
One comes with the Thailand map
The other comes with the hangar mod.

When you open any map in fmb - how many map objects do you have?

The Channel map by canon had a big list of extra objects to be added to the static.ini ...and one which was forgotten and came later..the blister Hanger

Well, after uninstalling Thailand map, Channel map object files for both maps and hangar mods and recorrecting static.ini etc and reinstalling a few times I still can't save missions on this AWESOMELY WONDERFUL MAP!!
I've resorted to using the original Thailand map with normal 4.09 objects which saves missions exceedingly well.
My first project will be a template of a completely built up area of Chiang Mai from scratch.
I live in Chiang Mai so that's the place on this great map for me to start.

I want to modify some skins from the object TGA list (quite a large file) that I downloaded for 4.09.
I also have the TGA converter. I have Photoshop 7.
Is there anything else I need to modify building/objects skins?

I hope to have this template finished in a month.

Sounds good Kirby.......
Why some people can come in and install it from scratch without problems and others cannot I really don't know :?

What are you going to use as a basis for populating Chiangmai...or have you got hold of some old photos?

If someone were to redo Rangoon it would be nice ...and Bangkok... I really have no idea if any Thais are using this map or not.

Hi!

I had no problems installing and saving. But I experience some incompatibilities with the flora bjects and the oil refinarys [?] on the river banks in the recall missions.

This is definately not the mistake of fabianfred, but the fault of my x1950xt and the ati drivers.
I experiece a very similar if not the same gfx problems with the r4 rockets as I described some posts above. These started to occur after some cat or ils update in autumn 2007.

In the last days I tried various cat drivers an conf.ini settings, but I could not solve the problem with the flora objects.

Even if I am the only one with this problem or a member of a very small minority I will be very glad If you could find an alternative for your flora objects fabianfred.

I am really looking forward to your next map releases, but I am afraid of the further use of your palms which cause an allergic reaction of my hardware. Even the first implemantation of madoxes ' palms had to be redone due to performance problems if I remember correctly.

There are many different palms in stock il2.

I offer my help as a tester in order to keep your maps downward compatible to users of older ati gfx cards.

My current solutionis to copy flora in for FMB editing and deleting flora for playing. It is barable, but thailand with palm trees sure looks better. I do not have problems with the palms of the white sun blue sky campain #s crimea map.

I'm sorry but if I do not have your problem it is hard for me to replicate it and do anything about it.....

It wouldn't be correct for me to make changes so that older cards can work, when most people are upgrading their hardware in anticipation of the BOBSOW or just to get more benefit from the faster CPU's and GPU's available today.

I think you will just have to be patient until you can upgrade your hardware..... I myself was only able to see the Perfect settings less than 9 months since I got a better set-up
