Blenheim MK I & IV cockpits
#31

Thanks John... a very worthwhile (and honest Big Grin ) warning

As for doing this with other aircraft...yes there is huge scope...however since this I made the Tankpack, have been working on some other things also and have got a huge commitment to SEOW coming up so my time really is quite limited.

However I really am prepared to give anyone that wished to take something like this onboard as much help as I am able.

i) look throught the wonderful P47 cockpit thread, its a good start. Poncho, Freddie and Avala are masters.
ii) Download the TGA converter
iii) Download the SFS extractor and find the original files of the aircraft that you want to convert (or
the substitute cockpit.) Then extract them and keep them ALL together in the same folder.

iv) Convert all TGA's with converter.
v) Put files in correct folder in Files/3do/Cockpits/xxxx

v) Start playing around with TGA's in photoshop.
Read VPmedias tutorial on Alpha's.
Download the matrix params tool and play around with HIM file editing.
If you want to go really deep, get the 3d mesh converter and suitable 3d studio max at some point you will need it.

vi) Open il2 often and view your handy work.

Happy to look at the Java to create separate cockpit folder once you have made good progress (and so are a number of others also I would imagine).

PM me :-)

(but please not with requests....)

Hello,

I have installed the two cockpits, following carefully the instructions on page 1 of this thread. However I have a doubt about whether my cockpit is showing what it is supposed to.

The Blenheim Mk I looks great, I just wonder about the Blenheim Mk IV. On the right side, I see still stuff written in Russian:

The same panel in the Blenheim Mk I cockpit shows English writing.

Looking straight ahead, this is what I see:

Is this the updated reskinned cockpit? I just post this to make sure the result is what it should be.

Thanks in advance,

Vince

Vtrelut, something has gone awry there ...

You are not seeing the reskinned Blenheim IV. Have you installed the new glass nosed Gunner position ?

If so I think one is 'bypassing' the other.
Try this:-
Backup ALL Blenheim folders in your MODS folder, then drag them to desktop (or delete them from MODS folder).
Put the Blenheim I & IV made flyables folder back in MODS folder.
----from now on you should get asked if you want to overwrite if you do it correct...select yes-----
Drop these textured cockpits into that folder.
Drop the Glass nose improvement into the above Blenheim made flyable folders and overwrite. Then drop the two extra files that I made over the top of that (...again you should overwrite the original hashed file.)

(all linked to on first page)

Jabo...that is just a list of what 'could be done'...I don't have the time to do it for other aircraft currently (but as I said above, will try to offer help if others wish to.)

What I will try and do however is get this gun sight right and hack out some more of the unnecessary mesh now that its possible to be a bit more precise with the 3d converter .
Maybe even change some of the cockpit framing and cut out the rear view...but have to see how that goes really...the 3d converter and 3ds max are not that intuitive (to me anyhow......)

I really only started playing around with this as a personal experiment with little thought that it would go any further so I am quite surprised that people like it. I don't think its that whatI have done is that good...its that the 'idea' of a perfect 'Blenheim' is so appealing :-)

Thank you Charlie Chap, yes this is what I thought about the Mk IV; the Mk I looks correct though, so I do not know what went wrong with my install, since I did it the same way for both. I will retry from the beginning, i.e. the installation of the flyable Blenheims.

Again thanks a lot.

Hello again Charlie Chap,

I tried and retried, installing everything in the order you posted above, but still to no avail. I do not know why. I checked if I could have conflicting mods, but could not find any. On the other hand, I noticed that your latest compatibility file for the Mk IV is the same as one of those included in Rudi's pack. Is that normal? (their dates are the same: August 2nd, 19h50).

My mistake, the Blenheim IV java file in the tiny download had somehow got mixed up with Rudi stock files.

Re download it now and it should do what it should and reference the re-textured cockpit, sorry that my carelessness put you through this :-( (and thank you for being so determined or I would never have become aware of my mistake and then been able to correct it.)
