I agree that the turrets would be a good place to learn and really compliment work to the models. I have not looked into that area yet but the java coding should be consistent with each position. (Field of view, weapon type and arc of fire variables excepted.) The modelling should be straight forward from there regarding the hier.him.

Dr. Jones and FatDuck are making great inroads in getting the meshconverter working. When that is done I am sure the tutorials will follow.

I am brushing up on vertex/poly modelling skills and uvw unwrapping techniques in readiness.

well, if you're making turrest, i think front ones are worth spending time on it, eg. B17 - one model and you can get three positions out of it - bomberman/navigator, front gun and cheek gun + plus you can test making instruments too (airspeed indicator, altimeter etc... - bomberman stuff). Also these positions are most NOT OK (after cockpit), other gunner positions looks more or less ok...
