I found multiple sources that said the A5 "could" carry a caouple of bomb types (500/1000) OR fuel tanks on the two hard points it had.. It could also carry up to 8 5" HVAR's on each win.. for 8, each of the 4 "zero length launcher rails" would be double stacked.. I've never seen it and I'n not sure if 8 required the fuel to be left off.. In either case since the range was so limited neither was a real option because the fuel tanks were so critical to its missions.
Actually Bo, if you look at the rockets on the right wing, there IS 8 of them on the rails.. they are stacked so that there is a row of 4 on the mounts and a row of 4 piggy backed very close to the others.. you can see the shape of the extra set in that photo..
That being said, in Korea Sabres were not given that tasking until the F model FB's were in theater so I doubt A models were used in that manner.
I tried downloading from your site just like you said, but when the download got to around 1.08 megs, it stopped downloading. So i cant get the entire file. Is there any other way i can download it? sorry for the trouble
i live in southwest wisconsin, and use dial up internet at 24kbps. Screamin fast!
I'll do some research on the loadouts but if I don't find any evidence of A models carrying rockets I won't be adding them. In any case that can always be corrected later on, so it's not a big deal
I think its very clear that they "Could" carry 8 on each wing.. 4 of those tiny clip hardpoints with 2 rockets stacked very tightly vertically. My comment was that in Korea, the role of the F86 was to cover the loads of dedicated fighter bombers that were available and did not have the performance to tangle with Mig15's so I doubt very much an Op Order was ever issued that had Sabre's carrying ordnance if F80's, F84's etc. were also available.. One thing I'm not clear on is whether or not the A could carry them WITH its fuel tanks..or in Place of. The bombs could only be carried IN PLACE of fuel tanks on the A model.
On a very related note, has anyone EVER seen a server up on Hyper Lobby or elsewhere that if setup for the F86/Mig9/15 matchup? I'd love to do some dogfighting but I've never seen anything setup for it.
I believe you are correct. For later variants (specifically the "F") they added an additional hardpoint inboard from the drop tanks for weapons.. that allowed them to carry various bombs plus the tanks. Fuel was so critical because range was a MAJOR concern in Korea for early Jets.
Once "F" models became common, the typical loadout was the 1000lb bombs under each wing.. At the speeds the Sabres travelled it allowed them a good "margin" for error.
Do you push your throttle beyond 100%, say to 101% or beyond? That will stall your engine every time in the YP-80. Since the sabre uses the P-80 FM ATM, this will happen to the sabre too. As for restart, you'll need to drop the nose, push the throttle to 80% and build up sufficient speed then restart. Altitude is critical for an air start.
