Can we expect any updates soon PeterD?

I think a Sabre only looks half dressed without drop tanks.
Yep yep...

Little update: the droptanks are ingame and working (207 gal and 120 gal), I haven't bothered to add any other loadouts yet but it's not very complicated. I was also busy experimenting with the front gear... I won't say anything else on that matter yet Tongue but the end result is pretty cool.
Next on my list was replacing the 50cals with M3s, I've asked Jolly to get "green light" but either his PM inbox is full and he hasn't seen it, or he hasn't been on the forums in a while.
Rockets and bombs will also be included... sorry if anyone has posted this already but does anyone have a list of the types used?

There's some good info on this back on p. 29, 30, 31 of this thread; in a nut shell the two pylons could carry drop tanks or bombs but not both at the same time with the exception of one bomb on one side and one drop tank on the other. Bombs were 500 lb. or 1000 lb. 5 inch rockets could be carried (up to 8 on each side) but they were carried to the exclusion of drop tanks or bombs, except for the case in Jan. '51 when the 4th FIW used one 5 in. rocket on each wing and one drop tank on each wing. There's a good pic of this config on page 29.

Thanks for the reply.

Apologies if I came across as pestering a little but I think this mod is the best thing thats come out for IL2 to date.

I noticed on your site you mentioned some redesign work around the nose? Will that alter the mapping of the template in any way?

I'm working on more skins but holding off if there's a possibility the mapping has altered.

Keep up the outstanding work.

No problem Smile
Yes it will alter it, but I've put special attention on that so the variations will be minimal. The mapping per say is pretty much the same, but the "UV lines" have been altered a bit. I'll also include the original unwrapping. The most significant variation is the nose intake (the inner part) which is easier to paint now, but that should not mean too much work on your part as it's a very small area within the skin. Instead of being mapped in a crappy front view it's done in a side view, much easier imho.

New additions to the basic skin include the seat headrest and a very slim panel for the slats so that they don't take the same texture as the top wing on it's bottom. That last explanation is rubbish but you'll see it instantly when the sabre is out Tongue. Also the canopy frame was somewhat improved and it will no longer overlap with the fuselage skin.

This is more or less how it will look like. It's not final but you get the idea:

EDIT:

This is what it looks like ingame:

Thats fantastic.. were you able to get the speeds right at altitudes? How about the ceilings..we're you able to get those close?

Sorry if I sounded like an fm'er but I don't mod or not this kind only texture mods. This is only information I know...

PeterD, maybe you could answer this, the tracers of the F-80 and now the F-86 come out in a single blob as if they are perfectly harmonized. Is there any way to represent it more realistically with the tracers from the 6 closely spaced weapons apprearing to be more of a narrow continuous stream. If you see Sabre gun footage it looks nothing like the current representation. It may not be possible.. Iwas just curious and figured you might atually know the answer.

If you mean "unsynchronized" tracers for the guns that's certainly possible. The ShVAKs ingame for example switch to different beltings every X bullets so I can do it the same way. Right now it fires one tracer every 5 rounds. Anyone knows the correct belting? ie: tracer-bullet-bullet-bullet or tracer-bullet-bullet-bullet-bullet (which is the current implementation I have)

PS: Got any links to the gun footage?

I'm not sure if this helps, I haven't been able to see the video yet (don't have a player for .avi files); when I did some aircraft modding in a different combat flight sim I altered the rate of fire of each installed gun by just a tiny bit. (Real machine guns don't fire at exactly the same rate) It produced a slightly more random and stream like look to the tracer fire. Another idea would be to start each gun at a different part of the belting. (One where the first round is a tracer, another where the 3rd round is a tracer etc.)

I don't know if these things are possible with IL2 but maybe it would help. BTW I think the belting is probably right (1 tracer every 5 rounds).

The way you have it modelled in the video is FAR better than the default for the P-80.. Looks far closer to gun footage I've seen.

PETER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just saw the shot of the Sabre carrying those drop tanks! Good Lord, guy! You're good. Very excited about this airplane.
It's gotten so that you really have to stop in here every day or else you'll miss something.
