Ok I agree with the basic statement. And agreee that the engine will not be suitable.
But guys, it sounds pretty ridicullous to say: "no, you can't do that" here where everything evolved from a "can't do that" and "no, thats imposible", and... a cople of people saying "well we will see if its really imposible".. and "the hell I can't"... It' s almost aggains the whole modding philosophy to go.. "you can't do that"...

Let modders do what they will, becouse they will anywway, jejeje....

And first Indochina war.. now thats a first timer, and a very interesting set of planes, countries, fighting methods.. and a whole new world!

And don't forget lots of countries were flying 50's planes in the 60's and 70's... so dates per se are ridiculus, the limit should be what the sim can or can not do....

I fly in a squad that represents the argentinian navy in the 60's! we just use 40's and 50's planes.. simple as that.

The game engine has set the limit for aircraft performance, that will not be changed. However, there is no reason why members of the community cannot make whatever they want in the way of maps and aircraft. If they wish to share them ,that is fine by me. If I don't want to download it that is my choice. I am not a Vietnam scenario fan, so I would not be interested in the hardware, but I would love to overfly the country in a time period of my choosing, so I would download the maps. But as I say that is my choice.

Wasn't the Komet as fast anyways?

Why put stipulations on a game thats obviously expandable?
If a map maker wants to make a Nam map, then so be it,whats the big deal here?
And if a modeler wants to make a F-22 again I say let it be so.
Who are we to say "STOP" and if you don't want it,then don't download it.
I'm open to anything a modeler can make, and it would be out right stupid to say we can't go farther than 1954,thats just narrow minded nonthinking.

Im not a modder, so i dont know how far the engine can be pushed.
however, i know a while ago, it was not possible to make new slots, and yet, now we have a load of new set of a/c!
I would love to use Il2 as a vietnam sim.Im not getting ahead of the game, and firstly, thank you for opening up the korean war to us.
however, the vietnam war started well before jet aircraft were standard, the french were using corsairs for example, no modding involved there, and the b26 intruder isnt that much different from the a 20?
even if high altiude, high speed f4 dogfiights against the mig 21s is out the question (shame but life goes on!)
a lot of combat in vietnam was low level, if we had a skyraider that would be a great sim enviroment, recreate low level bombing runs, napalm was already included in the game for example. mk 82 bombs are free fall iron bombs anyway so we could just convert 500 pound bombs.

Keep up the good work!

( ps just on a separate note, have helicopters been completly ruled out of il2)

IMHO, if a modder wants to make a mod they should be limited by nothing but their imagination and skill - if people don't like it, no one will force them to use it, and if AAA doesn't like it, they won't host it.

That said, however, I would direct people who want to play with Vietnam era planes like the F-4 or MiG-21 to Wings Over Vietnam, which models radar, advanced avionics, ground control, missiles, and supersonic flight. For me, WOV is the better sim for advanced jets, while Il-2 is far superior for WWII style dogfighting - I don't think Il-2 needs to be the sim for every kind of combat.

Just my two cents.

I think it'd be great if someone was able to extend the game engine, but what do I know?

I think as it stands Vietnam is off the radar so to speak- the community seems to be doing an incredible job extending IL-2 life as it is.

I'm not against the idea, I just think that as things are now it isn't practical to discuss it.

When someone comes up with what ever it takes to make the necessary widgets to make it possible, then I'd likely be there 8)

People, it's a WWII sim. Enough said.

Well Korea should be the limit, however exploring conflicts were 40s and 50s planes were involved should not be discarted as imposible to do.
