Appart from that, I just love this map. Now I'm looking for a way to justify why the Allies could have needed to invade Mozambique in an alternative history scenario. This map just cries 'fly Gladiators and Hurricanes over me' Big Grin

Cheers

I'll get the airport fixed and post an update later on.

How about after an unsuccessful attempt at the invasion of Madagascar, British Empire forces are forced to retreat towards Mozambique. French Vichy aided by Japanese elements decide to hand out a little payback and pursue them into Portuguese colonial territory. You would then probably have Portuguese as traditional British allies join in the fray on the Brit side - or not, that's up to you.

I vistited my cousin way back 70Confused at Rhodesia. We were thre about 2 months. I was like 12. What an adventure! It was one the reasons why i decited to study photograhphy(going back and be a journalist there. never had a change go there though)!
Rhodesia was 1 of the Africans welthiest country. My cousins father was at the Rhodesian Army (Rhodesian Light Infantry). must have been tuff for him to see the ruin of the country. he predicted it pretty well.. he could not handle it...
There was Inpendence/Civil war at the mozambic at the time. Now that we have jets, it would be great to do some fictive jet campaigns too! You know, Cubans/USSR with migs and panthers for Portugese. C-47 was in common use at the time. some pistone engine fighterbombers too.

I'm impressed about the maps. Just 1 thing. I noticed that there is houses in the middle of the country roads and highways. That is a no no, because all the moving vechiles stops when they collied with buildings. same goes with railroads. Thats easy to fix
Good job! Once again!!
ANd stop making these. I have no time to populate your Andalucia, because i had to fly over your beautifull maps over an over again!!!! LOL

Hi Agracier,

I flew over Dakar and Madagascar this morning, thanks a lot. There are 2 issues I wish to report:

1) Dakar city uses a lot of Egyptian objects? These kill FPS if used in large numbers, due to very high polygon count I understand. Also they are not visible from far away. Could you consider swapping some of them for original IL2 houses and buildings?

2) Madagascar does not seem populated enough around Diego Suarez/Joffreville? I would have expected a rather big town in that area, but maybe I should study more...

Thanks in advance for your attention.

I think I've got it... Hitler gets sick of Mussolini's repeated screwups in the Med, and so he sends a contingent of Italian troops South to invade Africa. The Brits send an emergency force to try and stop their advance. Seaborne assault, lots of straffing and inprovised airfields in the bush... but that is actually the scenario of a Zimbotho campaign I have in mind...
Might do something with US and Brazilian troops against a German and Italian expeditionary force, something resembling Torch...

But first things first, I have a few projects depicting real events to finish first Big Grin

Cheers

Maybe I should make a light version of Dakar - though when doing the populating I had to continually repress the urge to keep on placing objects ...

On Madagascar you're probably right. I did an amount of 'research' on the area during WWII - even went digging in my own oversized library from way back when i was a WWII nut. I couldn't really find much at all in the way of Madagascar other than some very stylized maps and an article or two. And i was quite certain that the names we find on Google Maps nowadays, are different from what the villages were called back then.

I did spread some villages and a town or 6 around the coastlines, but without giving them a name or a text reference.

Adding some extra towns and villages is probably just the thing to do in the upcoming period though ...

I'd say stay tuned for updates ...

hi agracier, i'm hoping that some errors i'm getting here will help me to pinpoint why i'm having these map-saving issues from a previous post.
say the word, and i'll start a seperate thread on it,
the thing is this: installed all the maps correctly. period. All maps display in FMB and load fine. BUT - I can ONLY save missions on the Dakar map?? Madagascar and the 2 Moz. maps are a no-go. This problem is almost certainly specific to some problem that's crept into my install. Dakar uses the Egypt objects - which you might expect people to have issues with, i suppose. i have all the objects installed (and then some  ), so its not an object issue. its something to do with a missing default object somewhere, i'm sure, as most (3/4) of my default maps have the same problem. I can't save missions, or play existing ones (some which were successfully built and saved as recently as a week ago..!!! :?: )
like i said, there's nothing wrong with your maps, but do you(or anyone?) have any idea which files i might be looking at here...i suspect a corrupted file somewhere, but so far i'm no closer to finding the answer.
ok, enough of that....these maps all look great, and i thank you again for your work! 8)

Odd that you can save on Dakar, which should normally pose the biggest 'problem' due to new Egypt objects ...

Just on the odd chance - why don't you insert an Egypt object or 2 into the other maps and see if they will save ... you needn't put the objects anywhere anyone will ever see then - say on a map edge or somewhere ... this sounds like map voodoo I'll admit, but why not try and replicate what will work and see what happens.

If you mean i should save a new object on the map via map-making mode - can't do. that's part of my problem. if i try to load up using the map-making bldconf, i get a 70% CTD, so that kinda screws me in that department. anyways, investigating more... :?
i have no doubt that all these issues are related, most probably to one faulty file somewhere, but still no clue, though.... Sad

Hmmm ... later tonight I'll make an actors.static for the 2 other maps that include a few Egypt objects - just for your use ... pm me with an e-mail address so I don't have to use mediafire for such small files ...

It's easy to use - I'll just make an actors.static with a different name and make a load.ini that refers to the new actors and not the old one ... you can copy them to your maps directory without overwriting anything.

UPDATE: Dakar Lite version

for members who wish to have a lighter version of Dakar city, the Egypt objects in this city only, have been overwhelmingly been replaced by traditional Il-2 objects. A few still remain, but just a few.

Download the file, unzip and place the files into map directory 'ag_Dakar'.

http://www.mediafire.com/?0k3nmzmn0wz

You will have to add a new line to your all.ini to choose this option. Please add

ag_DakarLite ag_Dakar/loadLite.ini
