I was considering maybe those wedge shaped paper-clips as well for some parts. I was thinking of doing a Catalina next, which is quite large. Any ideas for keeping that one together?

I used for big parts rubber rings.

If I need a lot of rubber rings, i cut an old bycicle tire.

Won't the rubber-bands bond with the plastic like the tape?

It is better, to place two strips of wood (example fresh toothpick (Zahnstocher) between the band and plastic part. Carefully with the glue.

She is now done, here is the rest of the work:

First decal applied, and some scratching to reproduce flaking paint.

Tail surfaces are also decals. I decided to use them rather than to paint the tail. They go on quite well. Another one of my mistakes is shown here. I applied the stripe backwards, then accidentally tore it. :-? Typical Roman work.

Here the rest of the cockpit parts are added, the anti-glare area on the nose is painted, and other details are decalled and painted. It's ready for a gloss coat to seal everything in. You can also see the "replacement panels" I made to cover my mistake.

Despite all the mistakes, some of which i didn't bother to point out, I think this is my best build. I learned a lot, and hope to do better next time. (Hopefully I'll get started on the Revell PBY Catalina waiting for me at home) Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.

Looks very good. Nice idea with the replacement part.

Eduard has a carrier deck in 1/48. This is eventually a good addition to your aircraft.

the weathering on the cowl and the decals is spot on, its very easy to go overboard
with weathering yours looks great
the open canopy looks great too
