Camera Talk
#1

Hi all. For some time now ive been looking at IL2 movies ppl have made and i go "wow!" because some people have used really unique and interesting camera angles and stuff in their cinmatics.
my question is, how can you do those camera slides, those smooth pans where you cannot do such things in game. I will cite an example:

In this vid, it also shows small clips of a mosk tower and such, i dont mean those camera angles coz i know they are not IL2. but the plane sequences.
all help GREATLY appreciated (i want to get movie making!!!!! :twisted: :twisted: Big Grin Big Grin )

Ask over at the UBI Movie-Makers Forum and you might get good helpful responses from some of the successful movie-makers.

You can get smooth pans using track IR with the sensor mounted on a tripod or dolly while you re-record rushes from your .trk file on playback. Tracking friendly or enemy from your camera pov works well.

You can also pan and zoom in Sony Vegas or Final Cut. A hell of a lot easier than using the mouse, and totally smooth. Only drawback is a slight loss of resolution at high zoom.

Camera angles can be altered for "fly by view" in conf.ini. I have a range of values I can paste in.

eg-

[HookViewFly Config]
timeFirstStep=10.2
deltaZ=270.3
deltaY=3.0
deltaX=10.0

or

[HookViewFly Config]
timeFirstStep=6.6
deltaZ=-40.7
deltaY=3.0
deltaX=80.0

experiment with other values for Z and X

+ of course theres the "camera plane " mod and some novel camera angles from the PAT smoke mod.

Check out the Ubi forums - as Doolittle suggested.

Google some of the stuff your not familiar with and discover at your leisure.
Things should begin to fall into place then.

Heres a handy site for Audio and video references http://www.planetoftunes.com/

The Ubi Movie Makers forum is about dead. I think Joe Boyd stops by every full moon but not many others. I tried reading through older posts and watch older videos but most of the links are dead as well.

I think this forum is the best thing going now for IL2 movie makers.

yea, thanks for that movie!! I am more interested in trying to get nice pans and camera angles that the actual in game camera positions cannot render for you. I see amazing movies that people make with really cool camera footage of the planes and things.
