WIP: New Arctic area map from Mixx_
#76

I understand about the repainting. I didn't install the new Zapolar map, expressly because of the caution warnings I read here. I sure did not wish to have objects recolored/painted or changed in other maps ... so that I understand.

But what i would like to do is simply add his trees to my install. Nothing more, just his new trees (acacia, buisson, lineAUt etc ...). There are never enough different kinds of trees in maps. Especially not if you're making maps. Variety of trees goes a long way and since making trees is not 'sexy' as far as object making goes, I'm a sucker for new trees when they come along.

I'd make my own if I could, whole forests full of variations, but I lack the knowledge how to make objects.

So all I'd like to do is add his new trees. Just the trees. No other objects. But for that I still think I need static.ini entries.

And once again I'd edit it myself, but lack an understanding what certain lines mean ...

Hi agracier

I think you can find these same trees in one of the hanger mods by Lalrone, i'm pretty sure i've seen them here!

Good grief, to think I overlooked these all this time. Thanks for pointing this out ... found them indeed. Many thanks.

Think you are missing the point a wee bit. This isn't about updating the Murmansk map, which I agree is spot-on as it stands. What's happened is that Mixx has repainted a lot of the stock objects, but hasn't created new objects for them. So now EVERY other map that uses these objects has them in Mixx's paintschemes. You'll have grassy tracks in deserts; pink barrack blocks instead of black; walkways on the harbour (port base) objects that look stupid if they've been used in another map at 90 degrees to Mixx's.

Now I like Mixx's repaints, he's done a fine job, but they need to be additional to the stock objects rather than instead of.
Right now, if you've installed Zapolar'e you can use Mixx's trees and objects without altering the static.ini or anything else; in fact if you go back and look at some other maps you'll find them already there, because they've OVERWRITTEN the previous paintjobs. Whether you want them or not. The same thing happened with IJ's Palembang maps; another map I'd installed previously changed the colour of the PCP runway plates from dark grey to sand. IJ had placed grey plates - I get sandy ones, and will do on EVERY other map that uses them.

Any mapmaker repainting objects MUST create a new object file for them, or this will happen over and over again.

Unfortunately, that is true...
That is why we need to obey the rules that we will not overwrite default objects and textures, It takes some time to create new objectpack like canonUK did. But it is a must. Same goes with textures, That is why we must use own prefixed texture folders too.
Arctic map is a beauty and you can always backup your original objects too... It Is another option. But if i were Mixx, i would do a own objectfolder and lines for static.ini.
I always make backups before installing new maps in case of things like this.

If Mixx can't do this then I'll try and work on it for the next version of HSFX. The map is too good to leave out. Luckily I have plenty of time - anyone holding their breath waiting for 4.2 is going to go very blue in the face!

What a beautiful map. Have been mission building and flying all day. I hope this project gets the attention to detail that it truly deserves before we see it in a mod pack. Just a little fine tuning and it will be perfect. Best of the best! Thanks again Mixx and Kapteeni.

What newly painted old objcts are in there? I know he recommended having the map run with vpmedia's mod of newly painted old il2 objects, but that's another thing :???:

There's too many to list. Perhaps they are vpmedia's and not his own :???: . (I can't find any claim of ownership and the readme is in Russian - or on my PC blocks and squiggles as I don't have Cyrillic letters installed). Whoever's they are, they aren't in HSFX 4.1. If anyone can identify the artist/modder it would be really useful and save a lot of work.

Dunkelgrun, I'll post how to deal with it later (evening), it's a mix of things there, not hard to fix but needs some time to figure out the best way...

So for installing is like this:
Open the rar file
Take from it the "maps" folder and drop it into "il2root/mods/mapmods"
Create a folder let's say "il2root/mods/mixx_3D"
Take the "3d" folder form the rar archive and drop it into "il2root/mods/mixx_3D"
Do the normal add to all.ini of the map name and path
See if it runs ok in game.
Now if you want to disable the new skins of the old objects: just rename the folder
"il2root/mods/mixx_3D/3d" to something which distorts the word "3d" for example
rename to "il2root/mods/mixx_3D/X3d" . In this way you can switch between seeing the repaints or seeing the old skins.
You can even play the Zapolare map with "il2root/mods/mixx_3D/X3d", it will run ok, just you'll see the old buildings skins.
If you have already vpmedia's beta with new skins for the default old buildings these will likewise affect all maps too. My advice is to install it and check the look of the maps with it. I like a lot some of them, some not but it's easy then to disable not the whole mod but just the particular object you don't like. To explain for our case, say I don't like the new look of ClutterMoscow1. I browse "il2root/mods/mixx_3D/3d" till I find the folder "ClutterMoscow1". I rename it let's say to "XClutterMoscow1" and it's then disabled, you get the old look of ClutterMoscow1 house. Most of the objects new looks which are in the "il2root/mods/mixx_3D/3d" are done by vpmedia(the above mentioned beta skins pack) and lal_rone, but RONE has created the skins for independent objects, you know his hangar mod etc).
Hope it helps, maybe there's a better solution but...

That's what i suggest at one of my posts too. Complicated, but believe me
it is possible to do!. Only thing is that it is hard to keep count of how many IL2 installations i have. LOL

Thanks, that's what I was planning on doing - or something like it. I'm going to have to check whose skins are whose before I decide on the final renaming of objects though. I need to get each map looking as the mapmaker designed it. Will have to get vpmedia's pack as for some reason I don't have it. EDIT: Found them!

This most beautiful map has been included in the Ultrapack 2.0n patch.
However, the custom textures supplied by Mixx were not included because
they changed too many other things on other maps.

The good news is that Boomer at UP made the textures switchable
through JSGME.

Switched on the map appears as Mixx intended.

Find it here
