WIP: New Arctic area map from Mixx_
#91

spdr109 Wrote:This most beautiful map has been included in the Ultrapack 2.0n patch.
However, the custom textures supplied by Mixx were not included because
they changed too many other things on other maps.

The good news is that Boomer at UP made the textures switchable
through JSGME.

Switched on the map appears as Mixx intended.

This add-on maybe useful for Ultrapack 2.0 but for other modpacks or manual installs it's not of any use.
For those who installed it manually (like me) it should be the other way round as we already see the retextured objects on his map and on several other maps(unintended). So this little add-on should eliminate Mixx' retextured objects when enabled.
But to make sure if I was right I tested it and indeed it doesn't work. Enabled or disabled we still see his retextured objects.

But...

when I'm typing this I realized something else...
Now I downloaded this little add-on I know which objects Mixx retextured. In my MODS folder there are a lot of other objects so it was hard to figure out which were Mixx' ones and other ones. But now it is just a matter of comparing the ones already installed and the ones included in this Ultrapack add-on. When it corresponds I need to disable the ones in my MODS folder by "-" (minus) in front of it. If this theory is correct I will see the Arctic map without his retextured stuff.
When I enable this little add-on through JSGME I should see the map as intended.
I think that's the way it should be done for those who installed it manually. So no adding extra lines in the static.ini and renaming his object folders as mentioned before.

I have to admit it's just a theory as I haven't tried it out yet. But my own theory sounds logical to me.

EDIT:

I tried it out as I described above and it works! Big Grin
Comparing the folders and disabling them by putting a "-"(minus) in front of it took less then 5 minutes and here is the result:

agracier Wrote:This is indeed such a lovely map that I almost feel like foregoing map-making, since it would be difficult to do better.

But that aside, to promote the map a bit, I've posted a link here to 4 missions I made for myself for this map, but which might be of use to members who aren't that conversant with mission making in FMB or have no patience for it.

These missions are with large numbers of aircraft on both sides (30-60 in total), usually involve the pilot being tasked with intercepting a bombing raid and have no long flight times until contact with the enemy. The enemy aircraft will be within range almost as soon as the mission starts. So there is lots of action from the get go.

There is nothing historical about them as such, just some fast-paced missions on a great map with beautiful landscape. Don't get distracted by the views and sights along the way ...

Hum what planes are you using on your missions, i can load and play Mixx ones but not yours :???:

Tested just now   Big Grin . Thanks the gods i'm in holidays to finally get the time to test this!

What a delicious map !!! it's the best texturing work i have ever seen. so bad this guy Mixx was unknown until this map, it's a master work. Perfect textures, perfect balance and contrast...this is all i was looking for in terms of photorealism. No need to desaturate indeed...this guy perfectly know what he is doing and where he wanna go  .

I just noticed that the rocky textures are going a little to red tones which may come from his screen settings. I would correct it with balancing this to more cold colours adding a little green tones or desaturating the red tones...which means the same.

And it would be nice to ad some Bumph textures

These are 2 very very little modifications i will do for my personal use of the map but if some are interrested on testing it i could give a link.

I consider Mr Mixx as the father of photorealism in terms of land textures. Really really THANKS mister, seriously ! Smile

Kap, do you have news from him, or does we know if other projects from him are under way?

Before the UP 2.0n patch, I too had to load the arctic map manually into the MODS folder
which is separate from the JSGME folder. Luckily I had only the arctic map as a mod
outside of what came with UP 2.0. So by placing or removing the minus sign on the MODS folder
(-MODS) or (MODS) I activated or deactivated the map and its textures together.

When the UP2.0n patch came out the arctic map was now included so the need to use the JSGME
to switch on the textures was a great way to use them only when needed without affecting other maps

It only did not work for you because you mucked your install up by overwriting textures before trying to use the switcher,
I installed this map with out the texture add-on and this switcher works excellent for me.
I switch it on I have the new textures,I switch it off I have my old textures back.

The switcher works good just the way it is described to work,
as long as you have not installed the textures into your game and overwrote the textures you had before trying to use it!
It is not made for those who have already overwrote and screwed up there textures.

I am using this switcher with a 0.93 sound mod version of the game, and it works perfect
I have it also working perfect in my HSFX 4.11 game

So it is wrong to say it does not work with other mod packs,it will work with any Mod pack
it works fine as long as you have not overwrote your textures you originally had by installing these textures and letting them overwrite.
If you did install the textures before trying this switch...well hopefully you made back ups rather than letting all your textures get overwrote!

Switcher works good for me

Very well put EasyRider!

The switcher works as advertised.

That's the beauty of the way UP 2.0 is set up.
You can switch on or off any mod that is in JSGME.
At the same time there is the MODS folder structure that
allows you to add mods outside of whatever version
of UP that you happen to be using. By placing the minus in front
of the MODS folder or not will switch it off or on.
Or you can go inside the MODS folder and turn the mods
on or off individually.

Remember that they are accessed in this order-

MODS
JSGME
Files
sfs

For me the best of all possible worlds. Simplifies and cuts down the
number of different versions on the hard drive.

BTW Boomer at UP updated the 2.0n patch to fix some map issues
and has a smaller "fix maps only patch" for those already running UP 2.0n.

Increases functionality of the airfields on the arctic map somewhat so good enough for
now but Mixx seems to be working on a much more comprehensive fix. Let us all help him
to realize this map's full potential.

Google Translate was a great help to me.

I look forward to this map's final version.

Easy

That line in your answer says it all...
As some of us have installed everything already you will get the issue with Mixx' repainted objects on other maps (see problems on previous pages) because here at AAA nobody seemed to be aware of it.
Installing a switch to avoid all this wasn't possible as it didn't exist at that time.
So for those who have installed everything already a switch will work but then according the way I described above.
Lucky me I haven't messed up my install 'cause I didn't overwrite anything, I only added these objects.

So:
Yes, the switch works when installed without objects.
No, the switch won't work immediately when installed with objects.

Hopefully the confusion is over now...

Cheers,

L.

Hello friends!
It - Mixx. Persistently can not register on allaircraftsimulations.com.
What I done them wrong?
Thank Skyfan! He gave me his login name

Sorry for my english

Presenting an updated version for testing.

http://files.mail.ru/M0VUYR

Zapolar'e (summer, 43)

I updated / improved the texture, set Field Vaenga 2, altered the balance actors.static,
corrected point take off and landing, parking on the ground.
If someone can improve the location of parking lots - will be happy. Always consider your suggestions.

Should work with Mod Zuti.

Unfortunately, the old mission with a new version of the card does not work correctly. They are subject to the new editing. Fixed points of taxi + stay, airports have changed.

Unpack the archive.
To install manually:

1. Earlier version version "Zapolar":
... ... \ Maps \ _Tex \ Zapolar or ... ... \ maps \ _Tex \ land \ Zapolar
I think better kill. Be careful.

New textures Zapolar set on the way: ... ... \ maps \ _Tex \ Zapolar

2. Folder mixx_Zapolar'e set on the way: .... \ Maps \ mixx_Zapolar'e

Agree with the replacement files.

3. In the file all.ini replace version

All looking good!

I have installed the first version but I have deleted the original texture!

Can someone please tell me where I can find the old one?
