The real advantage of multiple cores is that you can assign each software to a separate core, thereby increasing the smoothness and efficiency of processing. This is because the processing of each software in a separate core causes them to not intefere with one another in the CPU.
With TrackIR, TeamSpeak, HyperLobby, Fraps, aircraft pedals, AC controls, and so forth all running at the same time in a flight simulation, six cores is much needed!
