I'm betting the screenshots were taken around 12h noon. That is when light conditions are normally harshest and most contrasting, unless the glare of the noonday sun blots out all shades of distinction.
One of the best and easiest ways to get the tint or shade of color you wish is to fly at hours other than at or around noon. If you take to the desert air around 16:30 / 17h, then you will have darker colored landscapes. Even more so if you choose hazy or poor weather conditions. These won't give you overcast skies since you are flying in a desert. But the landscape will look somewhat darker.

It would also decrease the sharp contrast between light desert and dark mountins - when flying at 2000m-4000m altitude... or higher.
