i was looking in the mapmods forum and i noticed that there isn't a new york map,
so i was wondering if there exists one?
i would love to fly some planes around the empire state building to shoot king kong of it xD
Folks have been looking for a US Northeast corridor map for some time. I don't think anyone wants to undertake the project because of how vast it would be even in the 1940's time period. Not to mention how long it would take to populate a map like that but you know what a frame rate hit it is to fly over Berlin. Imagine that scale of objects for a hundred of miles.
Welcome to mapmodding!
I suggest that you start by reading mapmaking tutorials and start to manipulate excisting maps before doing complitely new. Map making is fun once you learn the basics.
About New York: We do not have skyscrapers ATM, so somebody must make those objects and import them to game. That is quite difficult....
But it is possible!

Jokes aside, I think someone was going to attempt this...but I am talking a yar or more so ago so I have no idea on what happened. You could try a forum search for it.
Google Earth has its own 3D models of buildings in NY and has its own kind of flight sim included. I don't know anymore the key combinations for it but you can fly with a jetplane or a propellor plane over New York or where ever you want to.
Then only problems I see with importing 3D models from GoogleEarth into IL2, would be getting past all the copyright issues, finding and most likely buying the rights to their 3D "Source code files" so the AAA modelers could then import it into IL2. And on top of all of that bullcrap, the issue of poly count might be the last nail in the coffin.
IL2 modding community has done a fine job of producing quality 3d models/mods, and 100-1000 mods exist or are in construction I'm guessing.
However that is nothing compared to 10,000+ freeware/payware aircraft that were made for FS2004/FSX. But now you ask why can't we use all those fine 3D models from FS into IL2,
either the polys are too much, the source code is not for sale or download. And even IF they did import an FS addon (skyscrapers/scenery/planes/boats/cars) into IL2, it would require skinning, FM (If flyable/ai), and finally being put in the structure IL2 could handle/read.
And as for making such a map, i have not seen models of that size yet in Il-2. IMHO, such a map would not be worth the effort unless for a dedicated 'what-if' campaign where-by Britain loses the BoB and the Germans try to invade the USA.
well as it was just a question, i don't know that much about il2 so i was wondering about it, but i know enough know^^
just a to hard/big/impossible job to make xD
