So what about something useful from you? -Anti-Cheating MOD?

Unless you think that repaint cockpits and accurate engine sounds can give you an online advantage.

That is not the point! I don't blame the site! I simply state that the MODding tools are too powerful!
It's like giving shotguns to kids to play with!

Shotguns to kids...how is that in any way a rational comparison? And if that's not the point, then state it a little more clearly before you go off attacking people who're just trying to get a different enjoyment out of the game than you apparently. Who is reeeeally hurt, and I don't mean pride, by these mods? I agree, if you're basing so much of your happiness on this game you need to take some time off mate. Personally, I don't play online, and to those of us who don't, who just enjoy playing the game for the purity of a chance to put ourselves back in time in different planes to see how they perform (or as Oleg has deemed they should it seems), these mods are a dream. Now, onto some of your other points.

"Are you joking? If moderators won't ban me, I can send you a MOD which will turn I-153 into an UFO. It's just one file you need to place into the \files folder."

Mmmm, not exactly no. You could full well make it LOOK like a UFO, but for all intents and purposes based on its performance and weaponry it will still be an I-153, because it's bound by the uneditable (or at least that's how I've come to understand them as being, new as I am to the modding aspect of this game) FM. So in the end, you'd certainly look silly with an extra-terrestrial Chaika, but I'd have to say you wouldn't hold any more of an advantage over you opponents than having them look at you and go "what the heck.....?" for a bit, before "boom and zoom"ing you in their 109 and ruining your little life anyway.

that is exactly what I'm aiming for with my work on the mods. If it can be made to the level of 1C quality and is historically accurate I'll include it.

I'm hoping for a possibility of an online mod.

What he is stating is that with all the modders here and the genius in everything they do, that some of them could put some effort into creating a tool that allows servers to ensure that everyone is using the same FM and DM parameters, and thus would allow mod users and straight-up 1946 users to coexist in a peaceful state of gaming.

I've read him carefully and no where does he state that any mods here are at the root of online cheating. You guys should read him again and offer apologies I think Wink

agree 100%

One could argue, thats a form of natural selection...

Seriously however... The base idea of your's, of compiling it so it cannot be fiddled with (in the above regard) is not a new one... Its been discussed (albiet perhaps more out of the mainstream)...

Have a look at Ubi-zoo - there is a gentlemen who, instead of insulting people or making false accusations, is actually working on a program which can actually help levy out this problem - to a large degree.

There is, however, a lot of merit in the idea of cutting out the problems AT the origin... If the QTim tools, could avoid (Now before I finish this statement, I must admit ZERO knowledge of the tool's workings) opening the perverbial pandoras box of the FM's...

This itself opens a whole new problem - how do you eliminate EARLIER releases of the tool...?

This is madness...

terrified...

What do you think you discovered here? Alquaeda? Your "peace offering" is just a trojan horse and I am surpised some bought it.

As far as I am concern you, YES YOU! are a cheater! You builded a cheat... you will use it online in a shameless attempt to prove your point sooner or later! You will "draw the first blood"! You are the one who should be ashamed.

You talk about terror... on a playground... pfff... I am so sick of this speach.

WAR ON TERROR IN IL-2!! In theaters near you!

Get a life!

Eventualy the mods will congregate in packs bigger and bigger.... and CRT=2 can protect not only one version of the game... protect it from jokers that is...

How could someone care for a kid with a UFO I-153? That is just a kid... How could some one care for the "minuscul pathetic satisfaction" of another cheater with slightly better 109G2?

Listen... I challange you! Make a cheat that will fight online for me when I am sleeping and bring me glory! If you can't do it... go away!

P.S. And don't you try that "Oh, I am offended" on me. You are an offence with your insinuating thread starter post!

"So what about something useful from you?" pffft...

Since the rational is to provide online security I'd hate to think that the only way to do that is to re-lock FMs and DMs. That would have a chilling effect on the quest to find a way to add new planes to the sim. Sounds a bit like cutting off ones nose to spite their face. :?

Currently anyone can develop any mod they wish (within the current self-imposed limitations, of course). So if one has the urge, knowledge, and drive to develop a mod to secure online gameplay... power to 'em! Personally, I'd think that developing a way to secure online play that doesn't impact continued advancement in mod development (particularly for the offline aspect... my feely admitted bias) would be the more equitable course for all concerned. Just my opinion, of course...

Oh yes I've read him carefully as well. But different people get different viewpoints from posts. Personally I think many of these new one off posters are actaully well known Ubi zoo members. Some have had the guts to post over here under their usernames and I applaud themf for that

Uther Wrote:Well this is a modding site so i doubt we will see any anti-mod tools coming from here. But it would be nice if someone did mke one.Servers that do not want the mods should be kept mod free.

Agreed. To use another admittedly poor analogy...We have keys to a nuclear arsenal in this community. we need to make sure they are locked down and have fail safes. But again why bother posting here Kosmev? ultimately all you are doing is stirring up a hornets nest....

it always makes me laugh when i read someone saying..."the on-line game is ruined!..."

the on-line or off-line game has not been changed at all...... merely their perception of it

if YOU think it has been ruined ..for you...then it has ...for you...but NOT for all

people love to believe that their prejudices are shared by all...because people do not like to think that their beliefs are unpopular...or maybe even wrong!

if YOUR game has been ruined...then go play somewhere else.......plenty of other people have had their game ENRICHED by these mods

so the game is actually neither ruined nor enriched...it is just the same game...and the ruin or enrichment exist entirely in your own minds

With all due respect to kosmev99, this is precisely the kind of bleating that has had me stop visiting both the Ubi-zoo, and the Uber-zoo.

No one's game has been ruined, online or offline. The game is what you make of it, and with whom you play it with.

If someone makes an 'anti-cheat' mod, great. However no one has the right or should have the expectation that someone else will do it for them - no matter what side of the anti/pro mod fence you stand on. We certainly have no responsibility to do so, as AAA. It would be nice, yes. But not AAA's responsibility, for others to demand it do so.

QTim opened a pandora's box, granted. It ain't being nailed shut again. Deal with it, or move along..

And i say this as a 90% onliner who hasn't had his game 'ruined'.

kosmev you shoot yourself in the foot by posting this this way. If I didn't know any better I would think that you were just trying to get a response out of the AAA community.. and not necessarily a positive one.. because if you had positive intent considering the history of the past 6 weeks alone you wouldn't come in here pointing fingers at anyone. You do a great disservice to this forum the entire IL2 community and the cause of a unified community with a viable alternative to the schism that currently exists by posting this the way you have.

Shame on you.

If there is anyone who may be seriously interested in a solution that will be beneficial to every side in this issue in the long run then check out (The link is inoperative) this thread and consider that there are people who are seriously working on the matter, not just trying to foment more dissent and disharmony.. While it is true that the concerns of online players means very little to many of you, I know that there are also many of you who do fly online.... the time for the name calling, finger pointing, cries of ruination and damnation are done.. do you hear DONE!!!! We all need to stop, take stock and look at the sim .... some of us need to grow up and get over the past. Yes... the integrity of online play has been compromised.... it has been compromised for some time but because that process was in the hands of a few it wasn't as big an issue.. now it is...

A solution to that issue must be found, just as a way for those who want to fly with mods should be able to do so.. the mods aren't going anywhere. I am 100% certain that there are many many folks here who although they use and appreciate many of these mods, would be just as unhappy about getting into a fight on a server with an opponent who hacked his FM.. or his DM.. or his weps..... Not to say that anyone here would do that... Jolly has been adamant that that is not what goes on here and I have seen nothing in my time here to indicate that that is NOT AAA policy-keeping FMs/DMs/weps mod free-...

That being the case there is a lot of GREAT work over here that is just screaming to see the light of day by as many folks as possible... I seriously believe that between the mod switcher and a viable, scalable server side Mod Manager, one that will leave the issue of online use of mods up to the server admins not the guests , the future of this sim both offline and online can go places unheard of and it can still have a following online and offline long after 1C shuts the door and tosses the key on it.

Guys .. it is all about the sim. This is OUR sim.... this can be done.... but it cannot be done by either side alone... it MUST be accomplished by both sides working together and that will never happen if no one with the skills and the foresight from both sides is willing to sit down and try to do it. If a scalable server side solution is found and the mod switcher is used then everyone can fly where they want when they want.... and know that they are flying where they want to be... Sure there will always be those who will push the envelope just to see if they can do it... but I have to believe that it is the sim that matters most on both sides of this equation. Even if some people cannot see that.

Solutions people. We need solutions.... we have argued and fought enough. Time to move on and take this sim into it's twilight with the same level of dignity that it had during it's youth and middle age. Can we do that? Or are we going to just bicker....

Exactly !
Don't you get it?!
You have an option. I don't have one.
You like the MODs.. you can choose whether you want to play with MODs or not.
I don't like the MODs.
But I can't play online without MODs, there is no way to protect online servers from players with mods.

These MODding tool didn't enrich the game!!!
They changed it!

All I am looking for is finding a way to protect online servers from players with MODs.

Personally I don't like this fancy mods for unreal aircrafts. I'm too history-addicted.
But I think they are useful since they attract new players to the community and extend the capabilities of the game.
All I need is finding a way to restrict online play.
Yesterday we tested with CheckRunTime=2 but it didn't work...
Needless to say most of my squad mates are very reluctant to go online ...
